What is the SAT??

There are two Sections on the SAT. The math and Evidence based reading and writing. The essay section is optional but universities prefer it. You can confirm if your college prefers it by checking the College Boards  school profiles.

How long is the SAT?
The SAT is 3 hours long. If you choose to take the SAT with Essay, the test will be 3 hours and 50 minutes.

When should I take the SAT?
The best time to take the SAT for the first time is spring time of junior year. I highly recommend that if you have time/money (or fee waivers) you take the SAT and ACT both and retake either or both the fall of your Senior year.

How is the SAT scored?
Each section of the SAT is scored on a 200 to 800 point scale. Your total SAT score is the sum of your section scores. The highest possible SAT score is 1600. If you take the Essay, you will receive a separate score.

How should I study for the SAT?
Many students will utilize apps to study for the exam. However, aside from that, I highly encourage that you use Khan Academy. Khan Academy partnered with College Board to provide a self study area and at no cost as they noticed that students were resorting to expensive bootcamps. Here is the link to Khan Academy.
Another option is to add applications to your phone. Use your time wisely, study while on the bus, parent's car, etc. One question a day will go a long way! The College Board has data that shows that if you concentrate and really study for 5 hours on Khan, you will boost up by 100 points!
