Summer Before 9th grade
  • Volunteer in your community 
  • READ!!
  • Visit Colleges

YEAR LONG
  • Get good grades (A's and B's, no D's or F's) 
  • Turn in projects and other assignments on time
  • Choose courses that will challenge you (Honors)
  • Meet with your counselor to discuss your personal plans
  • Look at your gradebook for each course and verify that grades are accurate
  • Utilize before school/lunch/ and after school tutoring for Academic Support
  • Introduce yourself to the College Representatives that visit the campus, even if you think you might not want to apply there.
  • Start thinking about career paths and college (see career preparation section)
  • Develop your brand, Join clubs and participate in sports
  • Create profiles for college/career websites: www.cacareerzone.organd www.csumentor.edu
  • Volunteer in the community 
  • Attend College fairs (see NACAC website for dates/locations)
  • Create your portfolio (include your resume and sample work)​
  • Add SAT/ACT question of the day to your phone or your email. It is never too early to get started on this!
  • Visit universities nearby or take virtual tours.
  • Apply to scholarships. You will not find too many as a ninth grader but they are out there!
