What is the ACT?

The ACT is a standardized test that measures a student's skills in five core areas: English, math, reading, science, and writing (optional). Although the writing is defined as optional, universities prefer you take it and many times will not count your scores if you did not.
When should I take the ACT?
The best time to take the ACT for the first time is Spring of Junior year. I strongly encourage that if you have the time and money (or fee waiver) you take both the SAT and ACT and retake both or either in the fall of Senior year.
How long is the ACT?
The ACT is 2 hours and 55 minutes long. If you choose to take the ACT with Essay, the test will be 3 hours and 35 minutes.

How is the ACT scored?
The highest possible score you can earn on the ACT is 36 (on a scale of 1-36). This 36 is a composite, or average, of your four subject area scores—English, Reading, Math, and Science. Each section is also scored on a scale of 1-36. (If you take the ACT with Writing, your essay will not affect your composite score
How should I study for the ACT?
ACT created the ACT academy to help students study. You can also find free apps to place on your phone and be able to study from the comfort of your home. Here is the link for ACT prep.
