                                                                   JUNIOR YEAR
Summer
  • Volunteer in your community
  • Read
  • Recover credits; No D's or F's (if applicable)
  • Prepare for PSAT. Junior year PSAT can qualify you for the National Merit Scholarship. Use your 10th grade scores to study. Visit Khan Academy for more practice. College Board reasearch shows that if you devote 10 hours of time to Khan Academy, your score will improve by 100 points!!!!
  • Take a summer course at a local community college (see community college page)
  • Join a summer program, take on an Internship or an Employment opportunity

Junior Year Fall
  • Maintain grades - college admission officers pay close attention to your junior year
  • Volunteer in your community (See volunteer section)
  • Meet with your counselor to discuss your grades and your plans
  • Join clubs and participate in sports
  • Take the PSAT in  October and see if you can qualify the National Merit Scholarship Program, then continue to prepare for the SAT/ACT
  • Introduce yourself to University representatives who visit your campus, many times for privates, this the person who will see your application and decide yay/nay for your app.
  • Seek scholarships (see scholarship section)

           SPRING
  • Maintain grades - college admission officers pay close attention to your junior year
  • Meet w/ your counselor if you need to improve your grade or recover credits for a core class for graduation or college
  • Make a list of colleges you plan to attend (Safety, Reach, Dream)-See tips for selecting a university
  • Participate in school events (workshops, college representative visits)​
  • Join clubs and participate in sports
  • Attend college fairs (see NACAC website's calendar)
  • Seek scholarships (see scholarship section)
  • Start thinking about who to ask for a letter of recommendation. If you are applying for programs, scholarships you will need one. However, you will definetely need them when applying to private schools your senior year. Some schools are very specific as to who should write the letter, really depends on your major.
  • Take SAT in the Spring: sat.org/register and ACT; See your counselor for a fee waiver if you receive free/reduced lunch and see Testing section for steps on how to register.
  • Take AP exams if you took AP Courses. If you get free/reduced lunch you qualify for a fee reduction. See AP course page for more info.
